About

Hi there, I’m Rachel and welcome to my blog! I’m a full time healthcare worker and SVG designer. Want to know the story behind SunnySVG? Keep reading!

Mr Sun Drawing

You must be wondering who drew the masterpiece above.

Picasso?

Van Gogh?

All great guesses, but no, it was me, eight-year old Rachel.

One of my most fondest memories from childhood was when my mom took me to the local K-Mart to buy canvas paper, paint and paintbrushes. On our way home, I remember bouncing in the backseat, eager to start drawing and painting.

I’ve always been a lover of the arts, be it painting, drawing, music, dance, I love it all! When it came to my drawings and paintings, there was an aspect that I had to include in them all: Mr. Sun. You probably spotted him in my drawing above. A drawing of a sun wearing sunglasses and sweating? I just thought it was the funniest thing growing up and, honestly, I still do today.

As the years passed, I started drawing and painting less and less. And Mr. Sun, sadly, became forgotten.

Fast forward to February 2022, I found myself bedridden. I was paralyzed in pain and constant nausea and to make matters worse, doctors didn’t know what was wrong.

All I could do was pray to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because I knew:

“…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28).

Sitting in bed, I spent my time reading my Bible and praying for healing. Between different doctor’s visits, procedures and a surgery, I looked into ways that I could make an income because I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to go back to my job.

I wanted to do something that was creative and fun, something that would take my mind off of my current health issues.

One day, I stumbled upon SVG design. I watched countless YouTube videos to teach myself and then decided to invest in a course. I wanted to be a pro!

Soon after, I opened two Etsy shops. I sold editable templates on one and SVG cut files on the other. I saw growing success in both shops. I was thrilled! Around the same time, I finally got a diagnosis and my health started to slowly improve too. However, I still wasn’t physically capable of returning to my job. I was on sick leave for over six months at that point and a thought crossed my mind.

Maybe God wanted me to pivot. Maybe I should step out on faith and focus on my Etsy shops. I began to mentally prepare myself to put my years in healthcare behind me. Yet, I still felt uneasy about it. So, in a last ditch effort, I decided to apply to any and all work-from-home jobs in my field. I believed that God would provide me with a job suitable for my needs, if that was His will.

I am blessed to say it was! Now, I work from the comforts of my home (even in my pajamas some days LOL)! But seriously, I cannot thank God enough for blessing me with an opportunity like this. With my dream job and my health improving everyday, I feel blessed beyond measure and I want to bless others in return.

That is why I started this blog. I never want to forget (again) that giddy feeling I would get as a kid when I painted. Designing SVG cut files allows me to tap into that giddiness and be creative. I’m excited to share my designs with you, whether you are a beginner or pro crafter or small business owner.

Thank you for reading and stopping by!

-Rachel

P.S. I’m sure you already figured it out but it was only right that I name my blog after Mr. Sun, a token of my childhood that always puts a smile on my face.
